Short version: this site collects as little as it can, sells nothing, and runs no advertising trackers.
What is collected
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see which articles get read and which searches bring people here. It sets cookies and records your approximate location, device, and referring page. It is configured with IP anonymisation on, and it does not run until you allow it: analytics cookies stay switched off until you choose Allow on the notice at the bottom of the page, and choosing Decline keeps them off permanently.
- Comments. If you comment, WordPress stores the name, email, and comment text you submit, plus your IP address for spam filtering. Your email is never displayed or shared.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address for that purpose only. Every email has an unsubscribe link and unsubscribing deletes the record.
- Server logs. Our host records standard request logs, including IP addresses, and rotates them.
What is not collected
No advertising or cross-site tracking pixels. No selling or renting of any data. No profile building. No account required to read anything.
Third parties with access
- Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its database
- Google Analytics, for the analytics described above
- Our email provider, if you subscribe
- Our spam filter, which processes comment metadata
That is the complete list.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it corrected, or ask for it deleted, and we will do it. Email hello@trailassembly.com. Comment deletion requests are honoured without argument.
Cookies
Cookies here come from analytics — only after you allow them — and, if you comment, from WordPress remembering your details for next time. Blocking cookies in your browser does not break the site.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date above changes and a note goes at the top.
